| In 1927, Syed Abdul Rahman Omar Aljunied, grandson of Pengeran Assyarif Syed Omar Ali Aljunied, who was one of Singapore's early pioneers, decided to build Madrasah Aljunied on a plot of wakaf land at Victoria Street. The Madrasah first opened its doors to the first batch of 10 students. Over the years, the Madrasah has attracted students not just from Singapore but also neighbouring countries such as Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam. It also prides itself in its alumni that include the Muftis and Religious Ministers of a number of states and countries in Southeast Asia. The site highlights the school's history, mission and vision, management structure, curriculum, school crest as well as sections which are opened only to members, like the school's parents' association (JIWA) and the news section. The wakaf property where the school stands has been acquired by the government and it has been granted a 30 years lease on a small portion of the acquired property. The trustee members of the madrasah are Syed Abdul Rahman Aljunied and Syed Hassan Abdullah Aljunied. |
